Bristol Jolly Boat.
This boat is a reproduction of an early twentieth century clinker built boat that was used in the rivers and estuary around Bristol to transport goods, people, fish, etc. The prototype used a GRP hull, with all the imperfections of the original boat the mould was taken from, but used a traditional fit-out with a fair share of mahogany to feast the eye on. In line with its traditional character, beautiful bronze fittings are used throughout, and cream sails and hemplike rope are used for the gaff sloop rig. Although the boat can sail comfortably on its long keel, a substantial centreboard is added for extra windward performance and stability, although the ballasted keel and full bodied hull make the boat very stable already. The fit-out was designed so the boat was safe and easy to sail from the enclosed cockpit, making it an ideal boat for families and the less agile sailor. Jib sheets can be lead to cam cleats either near the centre or the aft thwart, making the boat easily sailed single handedly. Orders for a timber hull are very welcome!
