A sorry sight, but a fine shape
Stem and forefoot replaced in one lamination, new sheerstrake fitted
Transom and knee removed

This 16' launch came into the yard with the question whether she was salvageable. She was build in 1946 in Feock, Truro, by L.V. Hicks, and had been in the family since 1948. Cost, value when finished, and sentimental value all worked together to get the restoration started, which turned out to be a virtual rebuild. Stem and stemknee, transom and transomknee, the complete sheerstrake/gunnel/capping assembly, half of the ribs, decks, bulkheads, thwart + knees, wave breaker, seat riser, propshaft and inboard bearing, all came out to be renewed. The 9 hp Stuart Turner was send away to be overhauled as it was thought to be cheaper than converting to a second hand diesel. This turned out to be incorrect. Luckily for us, this part of the rebuild was taken on by the owner to sort out, and although he is still trying to get the engine to work properly, the boat itself is ready for another half century!
Hull almost ready, decks and bulkheads to go in
New thwart and knees, old bilgepump overhauled
Riding high without engine
