Traditional Yachts in Bristol

Welcome to Slipway Co-operative Ltd.
We build new, repair and restore timber yachts and are passionate about providing you with the perfect boat for you.
We're based in the centre of Bristol in the historic Underfall Yard, where Win Cnoops built the replica of the 1880 Slipway cradle (180 ton lifting capacity) during the restoration of the Yard in 1997-99. The Co-operative is in business since 2002 and we have worked on a wide variety of boats, including some very interesting ones, like Uffa Fox's 22 sq.m. no 1 'Vigilant', and his 45 ft 'Huff of Arklow', and we made the stern windows of Brunel's famous 'SS Great Britain'. But a boat of humble origin gets the same attention.
An exciting new side line in our work has been the development of the Bristol Jolly Boat, a 14ft gaff-rigged sloop, 3/4 decked with traditional bronze fittings. Although the prototype used a GRP hull out of a mould taken from an old wooden clinker boat, we invite orders for a wooden hulled version!
Another new build we are proud of is the Cornish Pilot Gig 'Young Bristol' for the Bristol Gig club. The 32 ft long, clinker built six oared rowing boat has had a great start and has won two races to date.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Traditional Quality
We have a small but dedicated team. We build boats the traditional way but are not averse to using modern techniques and materials (wood/epoxy, plywood, etc.).
When repairing/restoring a boat we strive to use the same methods as were used to build the boat, so your boat is restored to its traditional style and not a modern replica. After all, the boat lasted that long using those methods and it is why we like them that much!
